Taking inspiration from spongeware pottery I decided to embellish this pine chest using simple, traditional methods.
 
A cut sponge was utilised to apply the mottled decoration atop a white and brown basecoat. This was then discoloured and sympathetically aged.
 
All solid and usable. The exterior has been waxed.
 
The chest is circa 1910 and painted by David Patterson in 2025.
