A large Staffordshire pottery figure entitled ‘Prodigals Return’ based upon Jesus’ parable as recorded in Luke 15:11-32.

As is recorded the father is depicted embracing his son and placing on him the best robe.

Illustrated in Stephen Duckworth’s ‘Victorian Staffordshire Pottery Religious Figures’, page 114, fig. B.35. He further states on page 52, “It is likely that the figure is derived from a painting, The Return of the Prodigal Son by Leonello Spada (1576-1622), now in the Louvre. This was engraved by Henry Wallis and appears in the family Bibles.”.
