Constructed of beech retaining its original faux grained finish with decorative panels of satinwood banding surrounded by boxwood and ebony stringing throughout.
The form is refined drawing on ancient influence – derived from Thomas Hope and the like – delivered in an affordable, unfussy manner typical of the period.
William Whitely Ltd, established in 1863, was London’s first department store heralded as 'complete house furnishers' selling drapery, furniture, metalware and more all under one roof.
