An invalid chair bearing the maker’s tag of Leveson & Sons, London.
The firm was synonymous with such chairs, deemed ‘carrying chairs’ in their advertisements, which started from a cost of 1 Guinea.
The frame is constructed of walnut and beech with extending carrying handles to each side.
For ease of transportation the turned walnut legs unscrew from their sockets.
Historic flight-holes throughout, the canework is intact exhibiting a small historic repair to the back panel. The sliding carrying handles are somewhat stiff but do extend and retract as intended.
English, made by Leveson & Sons, late 19th century.
