A very simple form, or bench, unusually constructed of laburnum.
The top is comprised of two boards with the lighter coloured sapwood running along each outer edge. The ends are gently waisted and affixed to the top by means of through-wedged tenons and Cupid's bow shaped brackets. All raised on square tapered feet.
The use of laburnum in furniture making has strong ties to Scotland and in particular, though not exclusively, its eastern counties. It is quite probable this bench originated there.
Historic flight-holes are present to the sapwood but is perfectly sound and usable.
Probably Scottish, circa 1850.
