A sculptural pine cricket table with a scrubbed top.

Interestingly, rather than being associated with the sport, the name is likely derived from the old word ‘cracket’ denoting a three-legged stool.

The Cupid’s bow-shaped apron and turned legs have been historically painted the most delightful ochre colour with the original red lead apparent beneath.

At some stage the top has been turned and reset on the frame – likely to counteract warping to the top boards – however the paint history apparent to the underside affirms that they started life together. The feet have been reduced at a time.

Solid and usable.

British Isles, circa 1850.
